HAC points and grades

I've noticed that HAC is just giving a "P" for each of my kids, at school. Is that all they are getting? Teachers are just giving points for "showing up"?

(Guessing that P means, "present" or "participated".)

I got an email from one teacher saying my son hasn't logged onto Schoology for two weeks. That isn't true because I have seen work he has done in that class. Reached out to the teacher but haven't received an answer yet.

I thought "P" meant that they were on track with the amount of progress they had made thus far in going through the online material. "NP" means they are behind in the progress. I don't think it corresponds to how well or poorly they have done.

Well everyone passes this year, regardless. In my wife’s school there are several kids that were dunces from day 1 and by all measures should be retained, but they will move along to the next grade.

P = Participate
I = Incomplete

Is that true that everyone will pass or just your assumption? My son has been having technical issues in at least one class (although I suspect 1-2 more) where he is submitting the work but it is not showing up on the teacher's end. I have been in contact with one teacher who is trying to help us. I am worried that my son who has gotten good grades all year will get f'ed in the 4th quarter and be held back or something.

I was beginning to think something else besides technical issues were behind my kid's issues because most of his grades weren't improving even after talking with the Help Desk lady. I noticed that he wasn't spending a lot of time trying to get caught up. I suspect that he wasn't getting up until noon and was back playing video games by 3 PM when I got home. I would nag and nag but each week most classes still had low percentages.

Yesterday I went mid evil on him. Told him to shut down his damn game and (bleeping) work on getting caught up. I think I made him cry a little. He spent the next 4 hours doing schoolwork. I will make sure it will happen today and tomorrow too. Come Monday, he is on his own while I am at work but once I get home, the devices will again be taken away and he will work on school for another 3-4 hours unless he can prove he got stuff done while I was gone.

God help him in college in a few years when he truly is on his own.

At least on the elementary end it is.

My youngest, (the 5th grader) just isn't feeling it either. For him he misses the social aspects and definitely would rather have his teacher work with him on math instead anyone in his family, especially his big brother. We have had to bring the hammer down on him for playing games instead of working but now he has a routine that gets his work done and still has plenty of time for NBA2K. The oldest knows what he has to get done and it was not uncommon for him to spend 6-8 hours a day working on school work. His school year ended on the 15th so now it's on to his summer reading for college.

Mine is in high school so it's probably different. He has a month left to get his crap together. At this point, I will be happy with him getting the minimum 60% to pass. If there is online schooling in the Fall, I will be on his butt from Day 1.

Checking the Schoology site, it appears that they are getting points for participating rather than actual grades for their work. I am at least hopeful that if he really works at this, he will be ok.

No, P means Passing.

On Schoology, P =participated. I don't think teachers are giving actual grades. Looks like if the student completes an assignment, he/she is giving a certain number of points. Those points add up to a percentage needed to pass the class. 🤷
