Back in the day in the Adirondacks there was a fly dope called "Old Woodsman Fly Dope" that really worked to keep the black flies, deer flies, and skeeters away. It was also very effective at keeping people, pets, and any other living thing away. I just now found that they are making it again. I got dive bombed by those damn things when I was out mowing the grass on Saturday. OMG and now I have about 3 bites that are itching and I've had to take Benadryl for today.

The dryer sheets work well too, so don’t chuckle when you see someone with a sheet dangling from a clothespin on their cap.

Where did you fish? Au Sable? I'm assuming it was for trout.

Ausable all through Essex and Clinton counties, St. Lawrence, Salmon River near Malone, a ton of ponds and lakes in the area. We also had a little brook (East Branch of the Little Salmon River) that ran through our small farm. It was full of native brookies.
