Hackers should be drug out of their cubicle and horse whipped in the public square

Friday evening my Norton went off that it detected a virus and quarentined it. Then my internet connection (DSL) kept going down 3 minutes after a reboot. Then I started getting warning after arning that various .dll files were missing, then my computer kept shutting down and restarting.

Checked it Saturday and same thing, so I did I reinstall of XP. That fixed most of the porblems except now I cannot get on the internet at all. Called Verizon to reinstall my modem software, they referred me to DELL. Talked to the DELL guy for 2 hours while we tried everything known to get the dial up networking to work. Did another reinstall, called Verizon back and spent an hour while they tried everything. It seems that in addition to the other problems, this virus changed my windows registry so I cannot use the DUN.

I hope they find the little prick and make him clean the scum from keyboards with his tongue for 15 years in solitary.

Not yet, I have 2 options at this point.

1. Verizon is sending me a different DSL modem that does not use DUN.

2. Do a full new install of XP.

A full reinstall might not help.. You need to debug the drive bud... Reinstallling is almost worthless...

17 minutes after my beloved Dell returns to it's former vapid state.

Not dead yet.
Looks like the same bug may have infected good ol' Giant Food corporate headquarters too. Lots of reports of 3 minute uptimes and sudden reboots. This is fun!

Hi,

CROSS POST:
I see some good tips here in the Home Page hijacked thread for the average Winblows user regarding security. I would like to add some items that may help also.

This article will give you information of creating a bootable CD for Microsoft.

Vice is also something that may be worth looking into.

http://www.rootkit.com/project.php?id=20

This is a program to locate rootkits and Trojans

Of course, if you need a virus guard I would recommend AVG anti virus. It’s free for personal use, as is the ZoneAlarm firewall.
AVG:

Cool stuff! Check out BartPE. It creates a live Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 CD. The default build is crippled but you can add many applications as plugins to make it very useful. And I thought only Linux was capable from running from CD.

That's not hacker work.

Unless a hacker commandeered your PC and deleted the DLL's.

Remotely uploaded a script which loads itself into your PC's memory, and based on a timebomb or keystroke combination it launched the routine to delete them.

Viruses are the work of losers and scr1p7-k1dd13z.
