Had a scare last night

Throwing the deuces
I went to let my dog back inside for the night about 8pm. She was wobbley on her feet, kind of like she was drunk. I thought maybe her legs had fallen asleep or that maybe a snake got her. Got her upstairs and checked her out throughly and didn't see any marks of any kind. Put her in the crate and my husband went outside to check the backyard for any possible causes. He found some mushrooms that looked like they had been nibbled on. I know that mushrooms can be toxic to dogs and figured that must be the cause of her unsteadiness. She ended up throwing up and was fine the rest of the night and this morning.

With all this rain and wet ground we've had lately, the mushrooms are growing like crazy and I guess we missed a couple. We are lucky that the out-come wasn't any more serious. We figure either she didn't ingest much or because of her size, the effect that it had on her was minor. Whew.. one disaster avoided!!

Be sure to check your yard regularly before letting your dogs outside. Mushroom grow quickly, even over-night sometimes!!

Glad she's okay. If you see her eat them, you can give her a couple of teaspoons of peroxide. It will make her :barf:

Glad to hear that your dog is okay!! Maybe it's time to sit down and have a little talk with her... You know, if you don't talk to your dog about drugs, someone else will!! J/K :lmao:

Yeah, my neighbor's toddler was playing outside with her kindergarten and second grade age siblings, unattended as per usual..... she ate a mushroom, her siblings thought it was cute.

Are they as toxic to humans as they are to dogs? I'm glad my kids never tried that.

A copperhead got our 3 month old, 12lb boxer puppy a couple of weeks ago. We thought he was a goner for sure. It's amazing what the vets can do for $1200. We caught the snake the next morning though!! I read somewhere that vinegar would draw them out. So we put out a dish of vinegar the next morning and two hours later we got him!

I had one bite my lab on the leg last summer. She had a hugh welp that had to be drained once a day. It was nasty.
