A Stevie Wonder revelation. What amazes me is that the EV buyers knew this was coming yet they bought anyway. When has any of the Green New Deal initiatives not caused the end user money????? Like alimony, this is the screwing they get for the screwing they got!

All vehicle's registration should be miles driven to pay for road maintenance. Remove all gasoline taxes.

you pay this now, by gallons consumed
That6why said remove all fuel taxes. The danger to the mileage method is the libtards would greatly raise the rate for high mileage drivers, you know the rural white folks.

Factor in vehicle weight too since heavy vehicles cause more wear and tear on the roads.
Just trying to it short, there's more to the issue such how would you get mileage, the rate and the percentage breakdown between state and feds. Commercial trucks could be tricky, which state would they be registered.

Gonna do that for SUVs and trucks as well?

And a tax for EVs thats locked into a road upkeep fund, sure, only makes sense to pay their fair share for road upkeep. ......... but Maryland's idea of a lockbox is pretty piss poor.

I mean, it's not like there's not precedent. Years ago, even with the Prius-class vehicles, states like Oregon were trying to charge higher taxes because they weren't getting the taxes from gasoline. Not just years ago, but decades.

:yahoo:

Has driven 13,000 miles since buying a Tundra in 2020.

Seriously, that's pretty open-ended, though. There need to be caps, or they could charge me $10,000 to register my truck, or some silly sh*t like that. Okay, maybe not $10K, but still...hundreds, at least. Poor people be just not registering their vehicles.

They already do for trucks over a certain weight. It's called "Road Use Taxes," and can run into the thousands per year. That is in addition to all the other licenses, registration, taxes, fees, and costs.

Nope not happening. A mileage tax is not the way to go. Big Brother has no right to know where I go, when I go or any thing of that nature. Commuters are the ones who get screwed on that one. This is to restrict when, where and how people get around. Just more control form your elected officials - elections have consequences - time get gov't out of our cars.

Goverments NEVER remove a tax someone is already paying.

Only add new ones.

How about enforcing the registration rules and laws that are already on the books?! Plenty of people cruising around with long expired tags (probably due to being uninsured), improperly registered vehicles, etc. Millions to recoup just by enforcing laws already in place! Start there... then talk to me about adding new "tax."
