Hair salon with mask requirement (for both guests & employees)?

Hi, all! I'd love to find a salon where I can take my elderly mother for washes and cuts (and maybe a perm periodically). My mom has Alzheimer's and can't remember there's a pandemic, much less that she needs to wear a mask (but we consistently remind her to keep hers on); so I really need to find a salon where she'd be safe. She's also become resistant to washing her hair at home, but she's happy to have it done in a salon. Anyone know of a COVID-safe salon in SoMD? Thanks much for any recommendations.

You'd have to elaborate on what exactly you mean by "covid safe". Do you want mask requirements, or 100% vaccinations of all staff and customers? My understanding is that all Maryland salons are requiring masks; I don't know about vaccines though.

It's possible that one of the salons would take your mother by appointment during off hours, where she would be the only patron. I don't know what salon that would be, but maybe someone on here does, or you could call around.

In many places I've been there are mobile salons where they'll bring everything to you, designed specifically for the elderly/disabled who can't get out and around for whatever reason. If there isn't one in SoMD, some enterprising beautician should consider starting one.

To clarify, vraiblonde, I'm looking for a salon where all employees and customers are required to wear masks. We went to a nail salon where neither the customers nor the workers were wearing masks (I had assumed at least the employees would be wearing masks, but boy was I mistaken!). And YES, a mobile salon would be BRILLIANT! Charles County is fine, if we need to drive there to get this done, but of course, I'd prefer St. Mary's.

From what I understand, most salons are requiring staff to be vaccinated - privately owned salons decide on this - but St. Mary's does not have a mask mandate right now so you won't find a salon requiring both, regardless of vax status.

you could try MY SALON Suites of Lexington Park (although it's located in California - behind Cracker Barrell). It's a large building with rented out suites for stylists and from what I understand, each suite is set up like a mini salon shop, so I believe they each have their own door and are seperated from the other suites. You can search thru the stylists on the website and filter for womens' stylists. From there you can call and ask about private services for your mother and if they'd be willing to wear a mask while servicing her.

Maybe someone on here has been in MY SALON - I have a couple stylist friends with suites there, but I haven't been there yet myself.

I thought they always wore masks in nail salons before Covid because of the fumes from that crap?

So much of the world doesn't understand the simple fact that wearing PPE protects them and them only. Its like they think that with me wearing safety glasses somehow their eyes are being protected from the off cast of me using a grinder.
Im not going to mention how many things we along with dozens to hundreds touch each day along with those that never wash there hands....

There is also a My Salon in Charles County in Waldorf, in the Festival Shopping Center where the Christmas Tree store is. At these suites you make an appointment directly with a stylist, call/text the stylist after you have parked for your appointment, and they meet you at the front door which is kept locked. You and the stylist wear a mask at all times, except when she needs to work around your ears/face. Each stylist has their own space complete with shampoo sink, chair, hair dryer (the big kind that you sit under in a chair) and is separated by walls so you do not have contact with other customers or stylists. You pay the stylist directly so again, no other contact.

EDIT: Sorry i misspoke. The one in Waldorf is called Salon Plaza, not My Salon. 2 completely different places.

Never claimed what they did was effective, but I always remember seeing the Vietnamese women in these places with surgical masks on.

Thats not what I meant, if it was for fumes it would be charcoal, or they are uninformed.
I would bet more like not to inhale others foreign moisture and solids from cleaning, cutting and grinding during a Manny Peddie...

Call Bernie's in Leonardtown. When I've been there I've seen customer ranging from little kids to women in their 80s. They're very good.

Find a stylist that makes house calls instead if it's that important to you. You're gonna drive yourself crazy in the search for "compliant" people and businesses regarding mask usage. Why should any business, or their customers, acquiesce to your demands? If it is for the safety of your mother, the best, wisest, and responsible course of action is to keep her home and away from all other people.

Just say'in.
