When you go to the hairdresser, what are you expected to pay the shampoo girl? What is an appropriate tip for a GREAT haircut that costs $25?

I usually give the shampoo girl $2 and then since I have used my same hairdresser for about five years and love her (Cindy at Es-Cape in Leonardtown)) I give her $5.

I also give $2 to the shampoo girl if the hairdresser doesn't wash it.

I took the recent advice of forumites and went to a new salon (where the hairdresser washes my hair). My question is what to tip the "assistant" (apprentice) who blow dries my hair and does a not-so-great job of styling it? I know she's learning, so I don't mind. But should I tip her for something I didn't want and/or wasn't happy with?.. Especially when last time I went, I had no idea she would be helping. I was only prepared to tip the stylist a $10bill, so that's what I did. You can't add your tip to the charge receipt. If I could have, I may have considered tipping the apprentice. Any thoughts?

I tip the shampoo person $5. I always give 20% to my stylist. She's a friend and I always get great service.
