I have always wondered how best to call this day.
Is it a "Happy" Memorial Day?
Not for those who never came home from the fields of war.
"Celebrate" Memorial Day?
Do we need to celebrate our war dead?
How about all those Memorial Day sales? Why?
They selling memories or death?
I go the Wall, and say hello to the Seven Sons of my hometown who never came home from Nam.
I say hello to my fellow sailors who died fighting for us.
In the dark of the dawn, I listen to the roll call and cry..
I sneak home before the sunrise..and spend the day reflecting on the many who paid the price for my freedom.
I am a vet, I served durning VietNam.
I took care of the wounded who made it back to the states for more intensive treatment.
Today is not my day, November 11th is.
Today is for ALL of us to pause and remember...remember those who died for a cause they believed in and for a county they loved.
For all my brothers and sisters who lie under flags and cold white stones, and those who were never found.. this is your day, and I will honor it as best as I can.
I will lay flowers, say some prayers and take a deep breath of fresh, free air and pray for those still in harms way all around the world.
I will remember all of you, esp. LTCL David Holmes, Belmont Mass, (Panel 06E Line 010 MIA.)
I will remember and I say thank you to all who served,
I salute all of the vets, present and those resting in peace.
I will raise a glass in toast to all of you!
Have a reflective, peace filled Memorial Day, the day when the war dead are remembered and honored, not a day to find sales and deals at the mall.
