Agave Nectar? If so, the lighter one or the amber colored one? I hear it is a better sweetener than like Splenda and those types because it comes from the Agave fruit (I guess its a fruit?).. and its low on the glycemic index which will be great for those w/Insulin Resistance.. Thanks for any info.

I use it all the time :yahoo:

I use Raw Agave nectar, I also like the darker kind. Madhava is a good brand.
Agave is a succulent. It is fermented to make tequila which I also love but not as good for you :lmao:

I use amber agave nectar, am diabetic (insulin resistant) and it doesn't affect my blood sugar levels negatively. Keep in mind I use small amounts of it. It's very sweet so you can use less of it. It's readily available at Giant and Trader Joe's has their brand which is good too.

I so wish we had a Trader Joe's.

Thanks for your post, ohsnoes. I'm also diabetic,(Type II), and currently I use Stavia powder from Stevita for all my sweetening needs. It's expensive though. I use three teaspoons of it in one gallon of tea and at $35 for a 1.3 pound container, it's a costly way to keep my sugar count down.

How does the agave nectar compare to this price? Does the agave nectar flavor tea or foods?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You can use agave nectar just like you would honey. It's pricey like maple syrup so it may not be any cheaper than stevia, but it doesn't have the bitter undertones that stevia has. It dissolves quickly in any drink, hot or cold and is a bit thinner consistency than honey. A clean pure taste that's quite nice. I would think you could use it like honey in recipes. Diabetes is an expensive disease no matter how you slice it!
