"Hate the Sin."

Romans 6:1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. 14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
It's no wonder that man fell out a window! This guy, Paul, can really go on and on and on, and he's really too deep for the average Jo. No wonder the preachers leave the book of Romans to the others... lol.

This sarcastic quote came from the commentary.

After all, if God loves sinners, then why worry about sin? If God gives grace to sinners, then why not sin more and receive more grace? Some people think that their job is to sin and God’s job is to forgive, so they will do their job and God will do His job!
I smoked cigarettes for 52 years. I stunk up every house I lived in for years. I actually thought my parents didn't know. I tried to quit several times. I even tried hypnosis. After the hypnosis, I couldn't remember my way home... so, I lit a cigarette to clear my head. Finally, one morning, while smoking my morning cigarette outside, I got dizzy and fell head first onto a big rock and split my mouth wide open. That's when I quit. I had enough. I hit bottom. Oh, I didn't quit suddenly. I had Hubby work with me as he had with all the opioids years before. We worked together to wean me off of the nicotine. Yep, I used Chantix for the cravings part, and pot to cover the horrible nightmares, but April 18, 2018 was the first day in a little over 52 years that I went without a cigarette. Now I don't lust after them.

I think that's what Paul was talking about. You have to work at getting past the sin. You have to work to get rid of a habit. Once you are rid of it, why would you pick it back up again? Wasn't it hard enough to stop the first time? Come on.... stop living in the old habits. Pick up some new ones... better ones... like feeding the hungry and healing the sick. We should be spending our time being better Christians rather than missing the old habits.

I think that's what Paul is trying to get across. He's beating around the bush for affect, I guess. Maybe Paul thought that if his thoughts were too well thought out and easy to understand, they would say he was a liar. Maybe he figured if his testimony was too easy to accept, they would find him guilty. I get it. He's defending himself because he said God doesn't need for the Jews to cut their thing and Jesus was God's Son and anyone could join... even the Gentiles.

He also said that Jesus was a completely innocent man. No one would buy that argument. Romans couldn't buy that argument.

Maybe he was being so longwinded, hoping that everyone would fall asleep so he could make his escape!!

Why isn't anyone asking the obvious question? Where's the body????

If Jesus isn't the Son of God... If Jesus isn't Resurrected.... Where's the body????

But back to the verses. Everyone sins. When we accept Jesus as our Savior we still have to watch out for old habits. We're forgiven, for what we've done in the past. We have a clean slate. Now it's up to us to keep it nice and clean. We can't do it alone. I couldn't have stopped smoking if Hubby hadn't helped me those first few days.

Giving up old sin habits is as hard as quitting smoking after doing it constantly for 52 years! Once you stop.... You won't want to start up again. You won't want to go through that again.

Paul told Nero that Jesus was his Savior and Nero was welcome to join the family of God too. Yep, that's the Nero that fiddled while Rome burned. That's what's going on here... Paul is preaching to Nero about "Love thy neighbor". He's just being really, really, long winded.

Paul says "Hate the Sin".

You should try psilocybin therapy. [Provided in nature by God]. It's great for treating addictions, and depression.

Actually, I did. Back in the late 70's. I saw little leprechauns running through the field so I lit a cigarette to enjoy the show! I was a very dedicated smoker. Now I just insist on telling people how we did it. I agree, tho, the psilocybin was a lot better than the Chantix dreams. giggle.... giggle...
