Have made a life changing decision...

Wednesday, I have an inital consult with a counselor at the Outreach Addiction Clinic to address my long term alcoholism.
I drank almost 2 pints of whiskey Saturday night, fell down and my wife strained her back trying to help me.

I've been doing that 2 - 3 times a week since the hernia surgery in August 2023.

I have decided that Drink, Drank, Drunk, Fall Down is no longer how I want to live.

That's a good first step, and best of luck for a steady recovery. Hopefully they don't overcharge you, never had any experience with that clinic before.

And even if they do, perhaps you could learn enough habits so you don't have to keep coming back and emptying your pocketbook.

I burried my best friend of over 63 years, a few weeks ago. Long term alcohol and some other drug use, killed him. Alcohol just killed his insides and turned his brain to jello. He died at night, by himself alone in West Virginia with a final drinking binge and to many 30 mg Hydrocodones that evening.
He looked like he was just freed from a German Prison Camp, at the coroners office he weighed 112 lbs.

He is finely free from what was chasing him.
Man, I'll miss you Jimmy, oh and fu ck you for taking that road.

Best of luck with your recovery! I was just wondering about you an hour ago. Now I know. 😊

I'm so glad you're getting help. You seem like a nice person and I hate to think of you destroying your life through addiction. You're right - that's no way to live. *hug*

I've always heard that the decision to seek help is the hardest one. I wish you only the best in your recovery. Don't take any shortcuts. Put in the work no matter how hard.

Coming up on 35 years, the road won't be easy. The thing that helped me most was to not pick a drink up. I won't grab anyone a beer out of the fridge (wife will have a couple once in a blue moon and she knows I won't touch it), I won't grab you one at a bar and I won't even order a drink for someone at the bar or restaurant.

Tried the 12 step a couple of times and it wasn't for me. Went back to my way. Find what works for you.

Thanks, Eric the patient advocate at St. Mary's hospital and I had a long talk about quitting when I was in the ER back in mid-December.
He said that Outreach helped him break his heroin addiction.
I'm seeing my regular doctor tomorrow, will consult with him, too.

wishing you the best of luck. It’s not an easy thing as most members of AA will tell you. There are a lot of options and I hope you find one that works for you.
