Spent last Saturday at a training ( wildlife) and got to watch Greg Kearns band some birds of prey.
During the exam, he made note to us on how to determine the age of red tail hawks.
In the 2 photos below, one is of a 1 1/2 year old..notice the eye..the bottom half is the adult brown and the upper half is the juvenile cream.
The next photo is a full adult..eye totally brown.
Had I picked up the first hawk, I would have commented that the hawk had eye trauma or head trauma..but, thanks to the ongoing training, I know different and so do you!
