HDMI Splitter

Darwin was right
You sure you need a splitter and not a switcher. You can get a multi-input switcher with remote control for about $30-$80.

BIL has one HDMI input on his TV and has a DVD upconverter, but is using the HDMI input for his satelite reciever. That is all.
and when I went to Best Buy to purchase a HDMI splitter to take care of that very same problem, I came home with the new bigger better tv with the three inputs for HDMI.

however, if he has color stream abilities, he wont notice any real difference between the color stream and the HDMI for his satelite reciever.
Color stream is one notch below HDMI. I know that the verizon HI DEF tuner has the color stream option, I cant tell much difference between the two inputs.

What bcp said works too. You can run either source off of component (the red/green/blue connectors) and never notice the difference. Both can carry 1080i, the highest signal you'll get off the dish. He'll need extra cabling to do the audio though, since the component only carries video.

He had the DVD hooked up through the components but it was a pink screen, plugged the HDMI cable in the DVD and took the satelite out and it was fine. We tried several configurations with the component inputs and could not get it to work properly. It was either noise interference through the audio or messed up colors.

Yeah that is what I discovered, I've never used component hook ups, always A/V or HDMI, what do you need to get the components hooked up properly? Got a Wii hooked up in the A/V and have a bunch of components unused we'd like to hook the Xbox up too, along with satelite, and the upconverted DVD.

is the dvd an HDMI control device?
if so, you would need to run the sat on color stream and the dvd on HDMI.
and the color stream will have 5 connections. three for color, and two for sound. The color stream cables will have five connectors too.

Home Theater connections: HDMI, DVI, Component Video, S-Video, Composite, Digital Audio Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD - using the best connections for audio and video

Good guide there. To get it exact, we'd need makes and model numbers. efore I went all HMDI, my system was a maze of varying methods.

Basics?

Component = Red, green and blue, video only. Most common cause of a component issue (the pink screen, or some other basic color) is not matching up the connections right. Double and triple check those.

Component needs separate cables for sound. If its to a tv or other none surround setup, simple red and white audio patch cables are fine. For suround, you'll want fiber optic or coaxial.

REally, budget willing, the best bet is to break down and get a surround system. HTIB (Home Theatre in a Box) systems are not super expensive, and provide lots of inputs and output options.

Yes, DVD is HDMI.

I gotta read up on the component hook ups.

Anyone ever successfully use one of these?

I am using an HDMI 2-1 switch at the house, it works great. When we hook the PS3 up to it and power it up, it automatically switches over to it. When we power it off, it switches back to the satellite receiver. :yay:

I think it is made by IOGear...

Ok, so I got my component inputs for the x-box 360, video is fine, Now I thought I could take another set of RCA cables and run them from my component Audio L and R inputs to my recievers outputs for the audio,
but I get nothing. My reciever is older, it is a Pioneer that I bought back in the mid-90's and does not have an optical option.

Disregard looks like I need a special cable from my x-box to my TV to do what I was trying to do.

Just to make sure, there wasnt an issue with going from an input to an output?

Hey, that cable you need, is it one that plugs into the back and splits out all the various things from that one cable? If so, I have one Id let go for just the good karma. It does the PS1/2, the Xbox, and 360. Havent needed it since I went all HDMI.

Like this one, only has PS1/2 instead of the Wii, since this model came out before the Wii did:) Just noticed it the back of the 360 plug also has an outlet for optical for when you do upgrade that reciever:) Send me a PM ad we can set it up.
