He was like a dog

:bawl: Willard was a nice boy. He loved whole wheat bread, dog food, and salad. He loved being scratched on the cheeks, and being given fresh paper towels to shred. He loved his "wife" Wilma and daughters Willa, snowflake and specialed. He spent countless hours looking into theyre cage and watching them run on the wheel. I will miss him. He passed away today, and was buried somewhere by the lake. He was almost 3 years old. Although he was bred to be snake food, he was lucky enough to be adopted as a pocket pet. He was too big for a pocket. His cage is empty now, only his bed, left as he made it remains. I am broken hearted.

I didn't want to admit what he was cause I wasn't in the mood to read peoples negative opinions of willard. He did not know he was a rat. He was clean, well mannered, and very friendly. I was called a creepo for owning a rat by a close minded forumite. I still want to cry I miss him, and the girl rats are freaked out by his empty cage.

Please dont care what people say, animals have a way of attaching themselves to us, it doesnt matter what they are, you can love a mouse just like I can love a dog, when they die it doesnt hurt any less because of what type of animal it is, pain is pain and as you noted the girl rats realize he is gone, so once again for people that think rats are just "rats" all animals have feelings. I am sorry for your loss, but you save him from an horrific death and I am sure he was forever greatful to you for it.:huggy:

I hate rats, too, but what the heck - some people hate cats.

Sorry about your rodent. :flowers:

It is a normal fear, I was afraid of him when he first came to live here. He might as well have been a cobra or a black widow spider, but in days I was petting him and talking to him.
