Only happy When It Rains
Dear friends,
I have extremely sad news to report of my dear father, Howard, who suddenly passed away this afternoon (May 21, 2005).
He was without a doubt the most amazing father.
In show business, Howard Morris "the star" was one in a trillion, a true genius, and an entertainment dynamo. So many "greats" in this business followed his career with incredible admiration and respect. I for one am one of his biggest fans!
The Andy Griffith Show became a major part of my father's life. He appeared in only five episodes. Regardless, he made a permanent impression on so many people, and was always amazed by and grateful for all of the love and support his fans gave to him.
I shared with Howard every bit of mail that came in, so I know firsthand how important your cards, emails, and gifts were to him over the years.
All I can really say now is that I miss him beyond words.
Thank you for being there!
Sincerely,
David Morris
Howard Morris (1919-2005)
Another classic cartoon voice has left us. Comedian-actor-director Howard Morris passed away Saturday afternoon. An announcement was posted by Howard's son on his Ernest T. Bass homepage. http://www.ernestt.com/
Morris, well known for his appearances with Sid Ceaser and Carl Reiner on YOUR SHOW OF SHOWS in the 1950s (and playing wacky hillbilly, Ernest T. Bass on the Andy Griffith Show), joined the regular cast at Hanna Barbera with his portrayal of Jet Screamer (above) on THE JETSONS in 1962. He also voiced Atom Ant, Mr. Peebles and Breezly Bruin among others for H-B. More importantly, Morris did most of the voices for Gene Deitch's Oscar winning short MUNRO (1960), was King Features' BEETLE BAILEY (1962) and enacted several voices on Filmation's THE ARCHIE SHOW (1968), including Jughead.
He was a regular voice in Disney films, a member of the Mel Brooks stock company, and directed numerous 60s sitcoms and comedy features. He also did voice work on recent cartoons like "Garfield and Friends" (did the voice of Wade the Duck), "Ducktales" and "Cow and Chicken".
