Head Lice

My daycare provider had to close up for the day because on of her other kids came to daycare with head lice :yikes: She has to bomb her house and all that wonderful stuff.

I have checked my child over & over but no signs of it, thank goodness. Apparently the mother has 4 children & 2 of them are in school.....

Not sure what school the kids go to but just wanted to put the word out that it's out there....this is in St. Marys Co....

I'm still trying to figure out why the mother didn't catch on to this and get her children treated and lice free before bringing them to daycare

When my children are sick, I don't take them to daycare & I make sure they are well before returning them to avoid getting other peoples children sick....I guess I'm just considerate like that......:coffee:

 Can't catch everything in time I suppose. Some things are more obvious than others. Poor woman probably caught lice herself, can't imagine they have different brushes for her and her kids.

So glad I never caught lice. I knew some kids in school that had it, learned a friend of mine had it after she spent the night at my house. I was so lucky I didn't use that pillow after her.

Lice are notoriously hard to spot unless you are looking for them. I know some perfectly clean, respectable people who didn't know their child had lice until he was sent home from school with a note. Of course he caught it in school in the first place and they treated it before the rest of the family got it.

I forgot to mention that apparently the mother knew the child/children had the lice prior to....guess she "thought" it was gone

Main reason for my post was to make parents aware that it's going around and to check their children :yay:

Will check today

Well, that's a whole different issue.

:yay:

It is hard to find it unless you're looking for it. I think it's a good thing you posted, it gives us, if nothing else, just a little reminder, or a reason to check.
I have been cutting my boy's hair at home, after buying one of those trimming kits. And I gave him a haircut just the other day and didn't see anything suspicious there.
A couple of years ago I had head lice!!!! And I have very long hair. Didn't even notice the itching, but one day - brace yourselves, this is pretty gross - I was somewhere talking to someone, when suddenly felt something that fell on my hand, that was on my lap. It was a fully grown lice!!! It's sooooooo disgusting!! It has legs, that move and it crawled on my hand before I just brushed it off, not knowing what it was.... eeeeeeeewwwwww!!
That night I was laying on the bed doing something on the laptop and saw another one that just fell off, this time on a paper that was under me. So I looked it up and confirmed that it was lice. Yuck, that was so awful. I don't think I've ever seen an adult one before, I didn't realize they are so gross.
So I went to the store and bought the shampoo and the comb, spent a whole afternoon combing my hair, washed my son's and my husbands heads with the stuff and gave them a good check. They didn't have any!!
I still don't know where I got those things from!!!
Now, whenever I have a little itch on my head, I freak out!!!!

This thread is making me itch :shocking:

:killingmeIt will do it every time!

Unfortunately, this is fairly common once school starts up, especially with the little ones. No matter how many times you tell them not to share combs or brushes or hats, it still can happen. I'd never seen them until we moved down here. One experience is all it takes to give you nightmares! Letting folks know makes it easier because then they know to be on the lookout. Hopefully, the school is notifying parents so they can check their children.

And to make matters worse the lice are becoming immune to the treatments. They are "Superbugs" now. Head Lice: The Latest Superbug to Become Resistant to Pesticides : TreeHugger

The other thing I wanted to add is make sure you check for them again in 2 weeks. If there are any eggs left they will become bugs by then. Most people forget to check for reinfestation. They can be on just about anything not just hair. Clothing, stuffed animals, car upholestry, bedding, furniture, etc. Wash as much as you can in hot water and use the spray found in stores for the rest. You can also bag stuff up for two weeks if you can't do the other things.

Well, the daycare provider opted to close for the rest of the week to clean & de-bug. Thank goodness I have reputable back up :yay:

And yes, I am hoping that the mother contacted the school if they weren't already aware so that other children can be checked & treated as needed.

Hmmm, sounds like my little one will be sporting a bald head when he goes to school.

I can remember getting lice in elementary school, most of the kids in my class wound up with it at once. I had really long hair and my poor Mom had to use that little comb forever. I remember sitting there thinking I was never going to leave that seat!

Wow!

The mother has attempted to drop the kids off this week again with head lice....wth is this woman thinking? Obviously she is doing the bare minimum to treat this problem. I've never met her as I drop & pick up my children before she does. Glad my DC provider is on top of things and is not allowing the children there....I would think if the mother attempts to continue to drop them off with lice that it is grounds for termination  Not sure on that but glad to see the provider putting her foot down. Cause if my child ends up with it due to this womans negligance I will be super pizzed

My two boys already do. Their hair is about as short as you can get without being bald. Guess it will come in handy in case of any out-breaks of lice in their schools. I remember the humiliation of having the school nurse pick through everyone's hair with a tongue depresssor when I was younger. Nobody ever had them (or not that I know of) but they'd check us a few times a year.
