Heartworm preventives

Funny, I was going to start a similar thread this evening. We have exclusively used Interceptor for my dog's whole life (6.5 years). The husband stopped by to pick up a 6 month supply and was told that it's on backorder until "summer" so we decided to just get a 6 month supply of whatever they recommended as a substitute (Iverhart Plus). I know zero about it but I hope it works as well as Interceptor.

Since I started taking the puppy to the vet at 8 weeks they put her on Trifexis and she has no side effects and seems to be doing really well, no fleas, heart worms or any other type of parasites.

If I understood my vet and remember correctly Trifexis does NOT protect against fleas and ticks.

She ended up keeping my dog on a flea/tick med and heart worm preventative. I would advise you to read up on it if your relying on it for flea/tick control too.

You're right about the Ticks, I didn't know that. We don't have a tick problem where I am. I've never found one on any of my pets or us. Not sure if that's why the vet recommended this. It's much cheaper than anything else out there, guess this is why.

We normally don't have a flea or tick issue either. But with the unusually warm winter, I am a little wary of going without for the summer.

A vet I worked with has had 4And dogs come up heartworm positive just before they shut the plant down for quality issues.... this also stopped them from making human meds as well as pet meds...

I use HG on my largehit dogs and revolution on my small dog... fleas ticks and mosquitoes are going to be bad this summer.. so ur pets need PROTECTION.

I laugh at those who think they will never have ticks or fleas on their pets.... u may never see them
