heirlooms, or as some say, hair looms.

Like others, we are downsizing a bit so we wont leave a mess behind for someone else to dispose of.

I came across something that made a tear in my eye drop. I'll explain:
My grandfather was a farmer/carpenter raised in the 1890's-early1900's. His father immigrated from Germany, settling in rural Roanoke Va. They farmed, did carpentry, whatever. When Texaco came to the area, he was hired on as a carpenter and they built a number of the gas stations in the mid-atlantic region.
My father joined the crew in the 1930's and learned the trade as well. Then the war broke out and my father joined the Navy. He already has a skill and servd his time. Afterwards, he started an owned his construction company until he passed on.
Anyway, I inherited several tool boxes, old tools from my grandfather and father. Big whoop, I know....
But one hammer, I cherished it. It had been polished hundreds of times with 000 steel wool, the wood shined like new. I couldn't possibly toss it or sell at some flea market for $5, my son has no desire for it. So, I guess I'll keep it....
A single tear dropped as I recall its historic value...

Yesiree, two heads, four handles, same old hammer...

Just sneakin' around....
:yay:
My brothers and I have various tools from my dad and his father. They have no real value, will never be used, but you just can't toss them. When I walked thru Calvert Marine Museum, I saw many of the same tools hanging on the wall.

Over the decades I've accumulated enough tools to outfit a Mom n Pop hardware store, about 10,000 books, too.
