Help! Cat and Dog trouble

So I got a rescue cat in August and she's been a joy. One of the best things is how she and my 11 year old dog got along famously from the first day. Here's the weird thing. Today the dog went to the groomer and got her usual shave and nail trim. She left at nine and hubby brought her home at 3. The cat has done nothing since except howl and puff, hiss and stand her fur on end. I think she doesn't recognize the dog! She's attacked poor puppy and is acting crazy. Anybody ever have this problem?

A tale of two kitties:

Kiki was highly disturbed when Gidget came home with a new haircut, smelling all foo foo. First she tore the bows off Gidgie's ears and destroyed them. Then she hissed and wouldn't let Gidget come anywhere near her. It was like that for a couple of days until the smell wore off and Kiki got used to the new Gidget.
