HELP! Dog poisoning in Mechanicsville area

It appears one of my dog has been poisoned with either antifreeze or propylene glycol. Has anyone else had this happen to their animal and how did you handle it? My husband and I have beaten ourselves up about where she could have gotten into either one and we can't come with anything. Right now she is still alive but it is costing us a small fortune and we don't even know that she will still live after all is said and done. But we would do it again - we love our animals very much! I'm very mad to think that someone could be so brazen to come on my properly and do this to my animals. I have a fenced yard and I live in a very nice neighborhood. I have 3 dogs and this was done to the mildest mannered of all 3 of them. We've never done anything to anyone - my husband and I are both very friendly people and go out of our way to befriend our neighbors. HOW SAD TO THINK THAT YOU ARE NOT EVEN SAFE IN YOUR OWN HOME!

YIKES! How do you know your dog was poisoned? Could she have gotten ahold of something around your house? Have your neighbors complained about her?

I hope your dog makes it. That is very disturbing. Will be sending prayers your way.

I hate to say this, but a few years ago I had a dog that got into some antifreeze. I took him to the vets and spent a small fortune but he passed away. They did everything they could but couldn't save him.. My prayers are with you. Maybe they have come up with something to help in the past 10 years.

So sorry to hear about your dog. What were/are her symptoms? I am also in Mechanicsville and suspect a similar incident with my dog, who we lost. We searched the yard for anything suspicious like a tennis ball, but found nothing.

Some time ago, a families dog was killed..someone thru an antifreeze laced tennis ball over the HIGH fence.

Also, in another case, food laced with antifreeze was tossed over fence..over time, dog took in more and more poison..and died.

CHECK you dogs yard every time they are let out unsupervised!!!!

Also, search archives for thread about Dog Poisoned/ Antifreeze.

So very sorry.....

If someone has the property and the appropriate fencing to keep their dogs on their property there is no reason someone can't let them out to do their business, unsupervised.

There is no reason other than they are unsupervised. By not supervising them you are making a choice. They can be stolen, attacked, injured. Your animals, your business. I don't want my dogs being bait. And I sure as hell wouldn't leave them out all day to bark their asses of and drive my neighbors crazy.

So easy to lace a tennis ball or hunk of beef and toss it OVER a fence...dog will find..dog will chew/eat...

So, better to check the yard than to check dog into vet.....

But hey..your dog, your yard, your chioice...OK???..Cool....

I don't believe I read they were left out all day. My dogs aren't left out all day, just to do their business. They go out with me when I take care of my horses as well.

My fencing is far from the edge of my property, don't think that is an issue. But you're right it is an individual choice. Why do you assume they left the dog out all day because basically that is being implied.

You don't have to explain yourself to anyone else.... you do what you believe works best for your family and animals and that's really all you need to worry about. Each to their own.

Well said, my dear!

We had a Cocker Spaniel, years and years ago (family pet) that used to wander back and forth to a set of neighbors' houses. He was very sweet, but not so bright. Unfortunately, he died from (suspected) antifreeze poisoning. It could have been a spill at anyone's garage or driveway, topped with kitty litter and he'd still probably do a taste test for food viability. But that was then - 30 years ago - and everyone was devastated. It broke my dad's heart. :bawl:

It's a sad thing and I'm sorry for what you're going through. :huggy:

1st
the dog needs to go get seen by the puppy doc.
2nd
call the local law enforcent and file a report. ( maybe someone else had this same problem close to you) easier to narrow down.
Hope the pup is OK!!!!
