Hello to all. My grandchildrens desktop has started displaying a full screen message stating that the computer is locked by the FBI. The only way I have found to get off this screen is to bring up Windows Task Manager and with Trail and error discovered the process is named "gjnfocru.exe". I can end the process but it reappears. I have scanned the computer using Norton 360 and Malware Bytes to no avail.

Has anyone came across this ? It is telling me that I need to take $200 in cash and buy a Money Pak card then enter the code number on the page. There is No contact information displayed so I can't believe this is real. Any suggestion on how I can eliminate this?

Thanks,:cds:

DroidMax, have you tried doing a system restore from an earlier date, have read sometimes this corrects it and sometimes it doesn't What OS XP or Win 7.

Vrai, it looked like in the OP he had already run Malware bytes

FBI scam

Thank you all for the quick responses. So far nothing has eliminated the problem.
I am using Windows XP. System restore will not work for some reason.
Thanks for the quick input,

The last bad computer virus I had, AVG found it and got rid of it. Since then, I've gone to Macs and never looked back.

Sorry "nomoney" I will only have a half of a cup of salt for you. Please check my account data, under this user name I have been active since May 2012, and formerly for an additional five years. I just have not posted before.

DroidMax, would you describe yourself as pretty computer literate? I found a manual removal for this but it consists of a lot of Registry edits and changes.

Thank you all for the Help provided. I think I may have found the solution. I checked my Start-Up manager and found this file (ginfocru.exe) listed as a Start-up file. Traced it back to a folder named System 32 and sent it to the Recycle bin. Have restarted computer three times now and it seems the issue is gone for now.
Again Thank you all for the great Help. I have been a member of SOMD for over five years now, first going by Malibu_Man and this was my first time posting.

DroidMax, that was part of the fix i was going to post, go into regedit and do a search on that file name and verify it is not still in the registry anywhere. Good job on fixing it, it is a nasty booger. I couldn't believe it but a lot of the hits i got said boot into safe mode and run malwarebytes, but you stated you had already done this. Good job.

After many similar experiences with the KIDS computer it was plain out apparent that kid sites (cartoon type stuff) are rife with malware.

I wiped the hard drive with zeros. Loaded Linux Mint and NEVER had another problem. They can visit there favorite sites with immunity.
