Help find dog in need of medication

Posted by: Anna Bedford on behalf of Barry Friedman, 6/9/2006

Swimmer - Missing
My dog Swimmer is a 3 year old Golden Retriever. He has been missing since Monday morning, June 5th, from home in St. Marys City.

He has epilepsy and is in great need of medication. After three days without Potassium Bromide he will start having seizures which are life threatening. For the period after a seizure he is completely disoriented and will run into things including traffic or water.

I have found an amazing network of neighbors who are helping me look for him. One neighbor went searching through a swamp area on a nearby farm. Adam Werblow, the sailing coach at St. Marys College had his staff create flyers and post them all over campus. My coworkers have mobilized searching into the night and posting flyers on every telephone poll in the area. As a result of the signs I have had many reports of golden retriever sightings by helpful citizens but none have paned out to be Swimmer.

I have come to the conclusion that he is now out of my general area and that is the reason that I am looking for broader exposure. Swimmer needs his medicine ASAP He is missed very much by me and my two daughters.

Thanks to all for keeping an eye out. It is not my dog, just helping get the word out! If the dog has not been found by now, it has probably had a seizure and died, very sad...

Two weeks ago my Golden Retriever "Swimmer" went missing. He has been found but, unfortunately it was not the outcome that we had hoped for. I learned through this experience that our community is second to none. I experienced an out poring of support and compassion from friends, neighbors and a multitude of people I didn't know. I have received phone calls of concern just to find out if "Swimmer' had been found and many offers of prayer. I want to express my sincere gratitude to our entire community, including the State Highway Administration who endured all of my flyers, the St. Marys College community, and The BAYNET. Thank you to everyone that helped spread the word, called, and helped in any way. Sincerely yours, Barry Friedman

Aww, what a sad ending. I'm sorry to hear that Swimmer wasn't found in time.

I know what it's like to lose a dog. My dog got loose 11/30/05 and we never found him. I miss him all the time. :bawl:
