HELP how do you crimp RJ45 cable?

If I was at work I could help you out. Are these computer to hub or computer to computer? One way is straight through and the other has a pair crossed. I forget which though. Oh and it helps to lick the ends before you stick them in the connector.

Now that you have the color code here are the steps:

1) Strip back enough sheathing to fan the wires out (see color code)
2) Flatten out and bunch the wires together, side-by-side, holding them with your thumb and index finger so they touch each other in a flat row keeping the colors in order with the orange to the left.
3) While holding the wires snip off the ends with some diagonal cutters (crimpers sometimes have cutters on them as well) making sure you cut in a straight line leaving about ¾” – 1” of wire from the end of the sheathing.
4) Carefully shove the RJ-45 connector over the wires with the tab facing down. There are guides inside the connector that will make sure the wires stay aligned.
5) When the wires feel like they are touching the end of the connector grab the sheathing near the connector and push hard to make sure the wires butt all the way to the end of the inside of the connector.
6) Shove the connector into the crimper and crimp. You want to make sure when you crimp the cable a good portion of the sheathing is inside the connector. This makes a more stable end and avoids wires from breaking when moving the cable around.
7) Do the same to the other side.

This makes, what’s called, a straight-thru cable.

Not really. You can line the colors up however you want. It's just a standard that the comm world needs to follow. And it's helpful to know the color order in the case of making other cable configurations like cross-overs or roll-overs.

Sure, for the straight through. We follow the code so if we need to replace the connector on one end of a cable we know how the other end is wired.

Nope.

Cat-5 cable consists of 4 twisted pairs. If you split pairs for the signal and signal return you lose the noise cancellation and screw up the line impedance inherent in twisted pairs. The net result is a DRAMATIC drop in max data rate.

its just straight thru fer a survelliance camera. I got one end done but do not feel like doing the other end cause its up on the telephone pole and its cold and windy.

Actually I am gona estimate the length and crimp it on the ground first

Right, thanks for clarifying. I didn't really mean to split pairs, I meant, for example, you could put w/bl and bl in 1 and 2, or 3 and 4, so on.

Yes. The color of the insulation has nothing to do with the pin out. Just make sure that the connectors are right side up when inserting the leads.

I don't think that is what was being asked. The pin out of pairs must be maintained. The color of the pairs is only necessary for industry compatibility (dummy proof) and the ability to replace one end without looking at the other as was stated by desertrat.

why make it so darn difficult with the striped colors, why can't they use the colors of the rainbow plus one? ROYGBIV and Brown (I guess...) Be heck of a lot easier than trying to remember W/O, O, etc...
