Help me pick out a new car

I've been driving a Jeep Cherokee since 1981 [fixed typo: 1991] (I've had 2). Classic car and I love it. They stopped making it in 2001. Faced with the theft of a car that I thought had at least 5 more good years in it, I now have to pick my next car.

I'm thinking about a small-med pick up truck. I want something that can tow a small boat (@ 21 ft) and has some zip.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

Maybe I should just pick up an old beater in the mean time. Cheaper than renting a car for 30 days. sigh.

You could get the new 09 Forester it's not a Pick Up, but it will tow a small boat. Plus AWD is standard! If you would like more info on the Forester you can PM me

I've had great luck with the GMC Sierra. I like the ride better than the Ford F-150. Haven't looked at the Tundras recently, but I'll bet they are more expensive.

You were driving a xj baby cherokee in 1981? As opposed to the full size sj wagoneer. If so, can I borrow your time machine? They didn't start making the baby cherokee until 1984.

I'd go with a Chevy 1500. If you can handle the payments, the 2500 w/ duramax and allison transmission would be my vote.

Heck I saw a guy driving a old Voyager/ Caravan mini van about a 95 with a small trailer attached to it get 2 tons of pellets loaded onto the trailer the other evening at American Hardware everyone just shooked their heads, wonder if he made it home.:lmao:

What love is all about
Toyota Tacoma or the Chevy 1500 series Silverado. The Toyota is a smaller pick up truck like you are wanting but both would be able to do what you are looking for. The Chevy Silverado is a full size but is the best for towing. It comes in a V6 or V8. The Toyota would be able to haul a small boat. It has pretty good zip and gets better gas mileage than the Silverado.

Pardon the typo. 1991.

I don't think I want to buy new, maybe one that is 3-5 years old. I'd like a 4x4 as well. And a V6. Not another SUV/cross-over thingy because I want something open in the back. The Jeep worked for towing and hauling somethings, but sometimes, you just need a work truck.

I stopped to look at the new Tacomas - they look about like what I'm looking for and they come w/ a 4x4 and V6. My friend swears by his Ford Ranger. I passed quite a few F-150s on the road - the ones without the extended cab or extended bed look reasonable as well, so I guess I'd also consider a truck w/out those things.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll recover my car!
