Ok, i just recently got my dog ( yesterday ). I bought a Crate for my dog, and a few other items. My question/help is that last night, when everyone in the family was going to bed, i put "Hercules"( dogs name ) in the crate. But, after about a min, he started whining and would not stop.....what should i do to keep hercules in the crate at night? I want him to like the crate and be safe in there.

So, i kept trying to get him to fall a sleep in the crate, except it just kept whining. I had to go to sleep, so i could not figure out why he would'nt stay...
Can anyone help?

He will stop let him get use to the idea of him having to be in the crate. When you are home and he is out keep the crate door open so he can get use to it. My dogs cried when I would put him in it but they got the hint that I would be back to let them out. So give him time he will stop.

It sounds hoakie, but get a hot water bottle and a ticking clock, it helps. We had 3-4 pups when I was grwing up and that helped the first week. After that, they accomodate.

Feed the dog in the crate, treat the dog when he goes into the crate, give him a kong with a little kibble in it plugged with peanut butter, and if its a wire crate sometimes putting a light sheet over it helps.

You might want to try putting the crate next to your bed.

When our dog was a pup, we had him in a crate downstairs at night. Well he just barked and scratched all night long. Then we moved his crate next to the bed. I'd talk to him and reach out to the gate while I was in bed. He'd know we were right there and that helped a lot.

hey kiddo...no profanity  you're better than that
NO you don't give in he's a DOGGIE. He'll survive. With that said, if he can be taken care of on leash (and not left in the car!!) he will benefit greatly by going to a ballgame, the socialization will be terrific. My boy has a cute pix of him on his phone...does he have anything besides a big ole HEAD ?

lol, sorry about the H word. Yeah, All APBT have big heads! When i did some reseach on him, i found that he is a American Pitbull Terrier. I mistaken him for a American Staffordshire terrier....We are taking Herk with us this weekend to my ballgames. I got a tournment, so he will get use to lotts of people

Are you feeling better?
