Pepe's Page

Pepe has been a dedicated guide dog in DC. He is facing forced retirement and must leave his home so the new guide dog can resume his duties.

Well trained older dog who just needs a loving place for his final years.

His page says he'll be staying with this guy's folks in MD. Am I missing something? I can't get FB at work so maybe it says something different.

That's a temporary solution only. From FB:

Pepe has spent his life being a guide dog for a young man, helping him to navigate a busy life in Washington, D.C. and now that Pepe has gotten older, he is facing forced retirement. As superbly trained as it is possible to be, Pepe would be an incredible companion for someone for the rest of his life. Although he has had cancer in the past, he is currently in remission, and needs a good home in which to spend the rest of his life, no matter how many or few those days might be. He has served loyally and with every fiber of his great lab heart and now must leave his home so the newly acquired guide dog can begin to do his own work. For more pictures and information on Pepe, please visit his special tribute page at: Pepe's Page.
Pepe is a courtesy listing and not a Tails of Hope dog.

As many of you know, my guide dog, Pepe, recently retired. A happy and spirited black Labrador, he is loved by all...just check out the wonderful comments on his tribute page: Pepe's Page.

It is important that my recently acquired new guide dog concentrate on his duties and bonding to me, so unfortunately we are looking for someone to adopt Pepe. It will take a special family or person because Pepe has cancer. However, the one cancerous growth was removed, he remains his usual happy self, and the low cost vitamin treatments seem to be working well. One vet believes Pepe is in an extended period of remission. Pepe is great with people and other dogs.

Anyone who adopts this dog will be rewarded with an energetic and loving companion, as well as the knowledge that they are giving much to that rare breed of dog that has done the same.

Just me....but I hate that people get rid of the service dogs. You'd think they would keep them ..I realize he probably needs another one and cannot take care of two dogs... just bothers me.

It bothers me a lot too. That's why I'm trying to be proactive.

From what I understand though, a service dog doesn't just retire himself because there is another service dog in the picture. He keeps wanting to work and it makes have two "work" dogs in the picture almost impossible.

This dog though is so well trained, he just needs a place to chill and get some love for his final years. I really wish we had the room for him in our home. But we don't even qualify it appears for the adoption.
