Help with medical question

I have a 4 year old Black Lab, for the past week I have noticed a little blood around her rectom. Not a lot, but when you wipe with a cloth there is some there. No blood in the stool, just a slight color with some fluid on the outside. No rips or tears, no problem eating or doing her business. Not sure what to do. It doesn't seem to be bothering her, no scooting.

One of the first things you should do is get her to the vet and have a stool sample done, make sure it's not some type of worm.

My dog has to have her anal glands expressed and she doesn't scoot so it was news to me that that was what was wrong.

Anyway, any time you see blood and don't see an obvious injury you should get her to the vet. It may be something simple to clear up quickly, but have the possibility to get worse if you wait too long.

good luck.

Try calling a veterinarian. For some reason they usually seem to know the answers to these types of questions.

I thought anal gland as well, but normally she scoots, but hasn't been. I will call vet and see. Thanks for your input

Usually blood around the rectum indicates one of several things without blood in the stool. This info is for informative purposes only and obviously your dog should see the vet, but here goes.

1. Swollen anal gland
2. Tear or rip of the internal portion of the anal tissue
3. A hemeroid
4. Giardia or coccidia (usually see the blood in the stool though)

Hope this helps. Let us know what the vet says.
