Help with promoting my web site

Hi..

I have a problem that I don't know how to solve. Maybe there is someone on this board that can help me by answering some questions.

I have a web site and I have made some sad attempts to get it onto good search engines but failed. When contacting some of the companies that "promises" to have my web site on MSN, GOOGLE, ALTA VISTA etc, they fist require me to sign up, get an account with them etc, etc. All they promise is that there will be "hits" on my web site. In my mind, that could mean a "site generator" software program run by them to visit my site a certain number of times per day...

Questions: If any of you have experience with web promoting or can direct me to a company that will do an honest job for a reasonable amount of money (fees), please let me know.

Is there any way of avoiding the "pay-per-click" fees - they seem like a trap to me.

In other words.. I am totally lost:confused: and need all the help that I can get - if any of you guys / gals know how to do this for me - I will be willing to pay for your time.

I have one hell of a good product, a (what I think) really nice web site (http://palominoleather.com) and I know that there are over 250 million people in the US alone - and I can't reach them!!:cussing:

Thanks for the quick response..

One thing: do I enter them on every single web page or just on the Index.htm page??

Do all, also have a page that links back to the main page that has LOTS of text and use the KEY words over and over. (you do not need to link to the page from the site, just have it link to your main page) Also submit the new page with all the text to MSN, GOOGLE, ALTA VISTA etc. You can also make it so the page forwards to your main page in 5 sec.

Does that count the forums or is that SOMD.COM

Use tracking software. See how long they stay, and how they got there 10,000 hits are useless if they are just that "hits".

I can get you 12,000 hits an hour and not one customer, what good is that.

I did a site for a guy a few years and he is now #1 in the most of top engines but it took a year or so to reach that point. He has since changed the site and most of my work is gone. I need to call him and tell him to update his meta tags cause the new design left them off.

Exactly. "Hits" are a waste of bandwidth - what you want are customers.

Oh, one more thing

include miss-spellings in the metta taggs for those who search wrong. IT HELPS.

"Hits" Are actually the internets biggest lie..... They refer to records not individuals.

Secret Number #1 when selecting your keywords choose words that appear in the first 1200 characters of text on each page. Meta tags will be different on each page. Don't be afraid to add the name of your business (Even if it doesn't appear.)

Secret #2 Use comas and no spaces to seperate keywords

Secret #3 Inktomi the leading robot looks for matches. Keywords need to match text, bottom line.

Secret #4 and most important! Never ever solely rely on search engines for business! Think of it this way... The internet is the Yellow pages for teh world! Can you imagine the size of that book? Identify your target market and advertise.... Locally Place the URL on your vehicle (cheap and easy!) Do not waste a lot of time on Newspapapers they are a waste in advertising dollars. Go for Magazines that your target market purchases....

Leg work is your best friend... Hang signs in local stores that cater to your market!

This will all work out just as soon as you understand that the internet only works as hard as you do.

Just looked at your page source.... Found the mistake! You are referencing images. The engines cannot read that! You are coming up with a BIG Fat Zero! Reference the information in your text.... watch the world change!

meta name="description" content="Handmade leather dog collars, chokers and leads"

P.S. Don't be so stingy! List the business name, St. Marys County, Southern Maryland etc.

Work on your text. You can make this happen.
