The Pegster
Scooter, my weiner dog, was neutered last Friday at the Well Pet Clinic. They said he did great and didn't need to come back; the stitches would dissolve - then they gave me a bunch of paperwork.
I read through it when I got home - no baths for a week, etc. There was one blurb in there about excessive licking by the dog - creating a "hot spot", but not to worry, since the wound is "superficial"; however, try to discourage licking.
Well, Scooter has been licking since he got home. He fights me when I try to do the peroxide / hydrocortisone thing, but I do the best I can with it. He is acting like the incision itches. The whole area is a little red, sore looking and a little swollen, but not hot or infected looking - like the papers said.
He's lost his normal "enthusiasm" - drags his belly across the floor, won't go outside unless you pick him up and take him out. I have to bring him to his water dish several times a day and encourage him to drink - it's like he knows that the more he drinks, the more he'll have to pee, so he drinks very little. The papers did say that urinating could be uncomfortable for him for up to a week. He's eating fine. He's hiding under the bed whenever people are around, he won't play... He will lay in my lap and let me pet him - as much as he can possibly get away with...
Is there anything else I can do for him? He seems soooo sad and uncomfortable...
