Wondering if anyone has any experience with Henson middle school. We are looking in a certain area to buy and its either Henson or Somers. Have heard good things about Somers but don't know much about Henson???

I don't know too much about Henson, but from what I remember a few years back, it wasn't anything spectacular. My nephews go to Somers and they have thrived there.

The other thing you need to look at is high schools. If they go to Henson, what high school will they go to when they graduate from Henson? And what high school would they go to when they graduate from Somers?

neither, private school. Somers is better than Henson but my Mom, who works for the school board is paying for the grandkids private school because she doesn't want them in any school in Charles County.

Have one in McDonough now and happy with it. I guess some from Henson and some from Somers go to McDonough. We are looking at that zone and the two middle schools are Henson and Somers.
I've had friends who paid ridiculous amounts for private only to return to public. I've always heard a lot of the kids who get kicked out of public schools go to private.

If you have one at McDonough now, I'd suggest sticking to housing in the McDonough/Somers area. :yay:

Grace Lutheran is not expensive and goes up to the 8th grade and are thinking of going up to H.S. I am putting my 6 year old daughter in Grace Lutheran this year. We are zoned for mt. Hope and General Smallwood so I have no choice, but be very careful where you are looking, they are changing things quite a bit because of the new schools being build. Good luck and pay close attention to the zoning and call the school board for proposed changes in zoning.

Milton Somers is the best between the two . My daughters went to Somers and it was a good school. They started out at SMCA which is a private school. Big mistake though. When we went to enroll them in public school they were behind in math and science. They did catch up and are now exceling. However, they were straight "A "students. I don't know what a "C" student would do. Somers isn't as good as it used to be when Mr. Warfield was there. He was the best. But I think it is still okay. From what I here about Henson. There is an awful lot of fighting. There were even a few knife incidents.

Yep. On a computer about ready to defend why it took you 5 years to get through middle school. Enough said.

That was just the 7th and 8th grades. I spent the 6th grade(s) at Stoddert.
