Ohio 13-Year-Old Charged With 128 Felonies

Andrew Riley was in juvenile detention and facing delinquency counts of burglary, theft, vandalism and witness intimidation.

“There are dozens of victims,” Prosecuting Attorney David Warren said.

Riley is accused of breaking into homes, businesses and vehicles, as well as assaulting a witness — a fellow student who went to police with information, officials said.

This equates to 9 felonies per year of his life. What happened to this kid? How in the world did our legal system keep putting him on the streets with this many crimes under his belt? And there's certainly not much being said about the parents. Allowing their child to get this far out of control... obviously a delinquent bunch altogether.

WMAL's Andy and Grandy Show was asking the question... Are there just "bad seeds" in this world that can't be fixed or is it possible a person like this could actually be rehabilitated and eventually become a functional part of society? Should this kid just be locked away or should mass amounts of tax dollars be spent trying to rehabilitate him?

Makes you wonder if at that one critical moment during his development, maybe 3 or 4 years old, if his parents had of knocked the living snot out of him for a transgression, if it might have showed him the meaning of "consequence" and changed his life.

As it is he will be a burden on society and continue to victimize people until he is put away forever.

According to his stepfather, Riley has had a difficult childhood.

"He's our first born and he's been through a lot," James Blake told The Ohio News Network.

Why don't they elaborate.

Because they probably caused it. Instability, run ins with the law, and generally bad examples and enabling behavior. Of course that is speculation. I am not sure but I suppose it is possible for a child to be born a total daemon to unsuspecting parents. A lot of it is genetics too.

I have old friends who were barren and adopted 2 children as infants 2 years apart. Great people, he was an executive with Mack Trucks, she was a stay at home mom and part time substitute teacher. The first one is a successful executive with a large prepared food company, his sister is a trailer park ho and was into everything. Same parents, same house, same upbringing. The only plausible excuse is a genetic disposition to shiatty behavior?

I think so. I know a family - father was state trooper, mother was a social worker. They had one son and one daughter. The daughter has done well with her life...graduated college, teacher, married, very stable. The son was in trouble with the law from the time he was about 14. Ended up in prison before he was 19. Hung himself in jail. Same parents, same upbringing...Now, I'm not too sure about the father's family, but the mother's family has some bad eggs, who have had some pretty colorful run-ins with the law. We used to talk about how she managed to escape from her childhood sane...

:yeahthat: Hope they can rehabilitate someone that young, but I have my doubts. This boy is going to be put out on the streets too soon and is eventually going to kill someone.

I find it hard to believe after about crime 20 the parents remained unsuspecting. I think the more accurate terms might be complacent, ignorant, negligent.

But mommy says she doubts he is guilty of all the felonies, IF he's guilty of any of them. Not her boy!!

Send the kid to prison til he's 21, let the parents serve the rest of his sentence.
