Matthew 12:46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”
48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
A few days ago... someone inquired about the existence of any brothers of Jesus. Well, here's your answer. Jesus did have brothers. Mary did have other sons.
Now let me ask a question. If I were in a room with my brothers and my sisters, and they wanted to do something I knew to be wrong.... should I stick with them because they are family? Or.... should I do what is right?
Mary and His brothers wanted to "talk some sense into the boy". They were sure Jesus was insane. Who walks around a conquered country with a band of hundreds of people, claiming [and displaying] healing powers that surpass magic? On top of that, people were claiming Him to be the Messiah. That would put a huge target on Him. That proved His insanity to His family. They wanted to save Him from Himself. They were sure, I believe, that if He kept up this big-man-in-town display, Rome would have Him crucified.
Jesus wouldn't be held back from His Mission by non-believers. Mary knew there was something special about Jesus.... but she didn't want Him to get Himself crucified.
Jesus was on a mission and neither His mother, nor His brothers were going to stop Him.
So, now, I'll answer the question. If I am in a room with my brothers and sisters, and they want to do what is wrong.... It's up to me to do what is right, if for no other reason than to show them the Light. Jesus had to be an example.
If Jesus put His family above the Mission.... He wouldn't have made it to the Cross.
Jesus did have earthly brothers. Mary and Joseph had sons.
