Luke 9:57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
58 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.
59 He said to another man, “Follow me.”
But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.
61 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”
62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.
So you want to be a preacher? So you want to drive a nice car and live in a nice home. So you want to be the warmth of your family. So you know your family is the light of the world, an grand example. So you want to be a preacher?

Those statements just do not go together. You car, your home, your coin purse, your family, your kids, your parents.... none of that is of any importance.

So you want to follow Jesus.

So you want to be a Christian.

So you want to go and proclaim the kingdom of God.

So you want to be fit for service in the kingdom of God.

I heard a preacher tell his congregation [a TV congregation at that] it is important that the preacher drive a fine car and live in a fine house. "After all, Christians are supposed to be an example of the good life everyone will have when Jesus is in charge."

Was that preacher a liar or was Jesus overstating the need to depend on God for the message?

So the amount of money you have is just not important. Jesus didn't carry a coin purse.

So you want to be a Christian? Put down your coin purse, your home, your family, and your friends.
