All the camping sites in state and National parks up and down West Coast have these super heavy-duty “bear boxes”, and it’s drilled into campers to put every last bit of food, trash, or used napkins into them. I thought that’s an overkill...

Until I saw one of those boxes, squished, with a door ripped off its hinges, and huge claw scratches all over. And those are “just” the black bears.

I think bears are smarter than what most people credit them foor, but what they definitely are is persistent.
