Update on the boat fire. The rescuers were my granddaughters father and his father. They were out at Triangle Wrecks (30 miles of Va Beach) fishing when they saw smoke about 10 miles away. Figured they needed to check it out. When they got there the boat was fully engulfed with two guys hanging on to the transom. They hailed the CG and a cutter 20 miles away made max speed to assist. The captain was barely hanging on and had a rough time getting hold of the life ring. He suffered burns to his hands and face. They had been in the water about 40 minutes so they were suffering from hypothermia. Once the rescuers got them aboard they provided first aid and warmed them as best they could. Cutter arrived and medical personnel boarded to render first aid and prep the victims for helo pickup and transfer. Helo arrived and lifted them for transfer. All in all they were very lucky that two guys decided to go fishing and took the time to investigate the smoke. They did have a life raft strapped to the hardtop but couldn't get to it. Boat went to the bottom. Wrecks are in 90-120 feet of water.
