That's not what I said, that's what you said...and I don't believe those lights and sirens give you the right to just barrel through lights without looking, or barrel through traffic without being careful.

So, playing devil's advocate, do everyday drivers have the right to ignore the lights and sirens because it isn't convenient for them to get out of the way? I was under the impression that all drivers are required to move out the way of an emergency vehicle, whether or not they are courteous.

Who said drivers were ignoring lights and sirens?

No, I don't always have to have the last word. However, you're the idiot. You're the only person suggesting that people won't get out of the way of emergency vehicles. We're saying if you're not in an emergency vehicle, you're just another jerk on the road. If you're barrelling up behind me, there's a good chance I'm not gonna' notice you're special license plate.

Hey Guy in the Black tr... 01-16-2007 11:01 AM you are one bitter, argumentative biatch
Annoying, isn't it. :really:

But there are also people in this county that won't pull over for emergency vehicles -flashing lights, blowing the horn, and wailing siren and it still doesn't help. I know that's another can of worms.... but its one thing that harms our safety enroute to help those who have called 911.

You're welcome.

Then why the hell did she quote me? I didn't say it.

What I will say is this...when I can't get out of the way of an emergency vehicle, setting on that freakin' fog horn isn't going to change my situation.

Although I hate to agree with you.... This statement is correct. Emergency vehicle while operating with all of their Emergeny Equipment (Lights, Sirens, Horns) on, have to operate with Due Regard for other Traffic. Just because they have there lights on does not mean the can blow red lights. They are requesting the right-away at intersections.

I have been in the Volunteer Fire and EMS services in St. Mary's County for close to 10 years now. When I first joined I was on of those people that when the pager went off I was haulin' azz down the road. I have since come to my sense and no longer do that.

Several people have already said this but if you see sombody operating either emergency vehicles or a personal vehicle in an unsafe manner call the fire or ems station were they are from and report it to the chief.

Saint Mary's is 100% volunteer. The apparatus we own we pay for with money that we raise. The average ambulance is $120,000- $150,000. Firetrucks are $300,000 to $900,000. The department need to know when members are not driving safely.

Thank you, and I've always been happy to support any emergency services when they hold their hands out, It's a slap to the face and an insult to have someone come along and insinuate that I'm a coward because I'm not a "volunteer", because the money donated is as important as the time they spend waiting for and tending to emergencies.

So you would aprove of a 18 year old in his Personal vehicle driving fast, and even fast now with a lil blue light on his dash?

I have been in a 4 ton firetruck with over 100 lights, two sirens, and air horns and people pull out in front of us... whats going to happen to this 18 year old with a lil blue light?

I approve any trained person getting into his/her car and getting to the scene. If they are amazing enough to volunteer their personal time to save lives, then I trust them with a blue light. Allowing them to bring their personal vehicles to the scene also prevents the "race to the rig" to go on a call.

elaine, you are making perfect sense :yay:
