"Girls make better pictures than boys. The girls just do it, while the boys are talking about who has the best camera. You'd vomit if you saw all the guys I do paying for workshops who stand around discussing noise figures of Canon vs. Nikon while the magic 60 seconds of light passes them over at sunrise in some remote scenic location. "

:ohwell:

I think I'll go play with my camera now.

Methodically disorganized
the technology today makes it possible...
It is true that the "auto" modes (Landscape, Sports, et al) do make things easier for many people, but they may take you only so far, depending on the subject matter.

If almost all somebody wants to shoot is big landscapes, they can set their camera to "Landscape" and let it stop down and determine the best shutter speed.

But creativity and individuality comes from breaking out of "auto" and shooting your subject the way you see it.

Maybe it's because the best photographers are more deeply committed to learn their equipment, or to explore their individuality, or to venture out at the oddest hour, but I think even in our current era where so many rely on the auto mode to do the thinking for them, one can still recognize the work of those who push for something better.
