Just for info, what does the "JERRY!! JERRY!!" mean?
Ever seen "The Jerry Springer Show"?

Guests (typically the dregs of society) are invited to participate in the show, and they parade their bad habits, poor morals and substandard lifestyle around in front of a rabidly cheering and jeering audience.

The guests invariably get into profane shouting matches with each other, and it's usually downhill from there - until fights and riots break out, and the show's bodyguards and security team are repeatedly sent in to break up the violence.

While this is going on, the audience typically starts chanting "Jerry! Jerry!"

The :jerry: icon is a take on that - indicating that the user is expecting bloodshed and embarassment to be forthcoming.

Thank you for the info. :jameo:

:larry: is Ozzie Ozbourne. I think you should quit using it, also, unless you support people who bite the heads off of live animals. TIA

This is the Jameo smilie... she is best friends with nomo who has birthed 6 babies just to get the child support out of the poor unsuspecting baby daddies. You may want to think twice before you use her smilie again too...:ohwell:

Excuse me, but I've birthed 6 babies for the very same reason, too. Where is my recognition? :tap:

You're welcome.

In case you are interested, people on the boards generally use the icons to express emotion (laughter: :lmao:), illicit a feeling, or a mood (tired: :coffee:, interested and watchful: ), or express other abstracts ( panic: :jameo:, affection: :huggy:, nonchalance:  ).

Over the course of time, these icons have become accepted parts of the board, and they serve a very specific purpose.

That purpose is not, and has never been, clipart.

However, you use them as clipart - and many people see them as feelings that you're trying to convey. Feelings that don't seem appropriate in the context of what you're saying. I'm not judging here - but oftentimes, inappropriate expressions of emotion are symptomatic of deep underlying psychoses. Therefore a lot of people view your usage of these icons as proof of insanity.

Not a sermon, just a thought.

:larry: Okay, but I only use them as clip-art and I like that term. Those emotions that are assigned to the icons are not written there and no way to really know or to say what this :jameo: means so I like them just as clip-art. In fact if I may be a little judemental then I have studies the subject of feelings and emotions and I feel that I express mine quite well, and I really think that others would be much wiser and psychologically better if they expressed their own feelings in words and not in icons, as I do.

This is an odd digression... but at least it's not about the unjust child support and the evil government.

Toxick just told you the use of clip art makes you appear insincere, insensitive and generally cheapens your point. And you like that?

You can't tell by looking at :jameo: what it means? means "confused", and it says so. :lmao: means "laughing my azz off", and it says so. How is this not obvious? (Of course, look who I'm asking... :lmao: )

So everyone should do the opposite you do? I could not agree more! :yay:

Please use them as designed. If you like to bite heads off animals, use this :larry: If you want to have more children you won't support, use this :jameo:

I was a graphic artist before I was an engineer. It's an industry term.

I'm no wordsmith, however, I think that I am capable of conveying a thought, feeling, emotion or state of mine with the written language without the usage of emoticons.

I was writing before :) was invented, and never had much problem.

I think that pretty much everyone here can say the same. But in a venue where one of the purposes is for distraction, entertainment, fun or recreation, adding smileys can enhance the visual experience with splashes of color, and clever visual clues, and humor.

Use the icons how you want - it's no skin off my nose - I was merely pointing out that perhaps using appropriate icons might add a little more jenny-say-qua to your postings.

Right. Whether you are :roflmao: or :jameo: or :barf: or :burning: at his posts, he will simply twist it and reinterpret it as :notworthy .

Don't you listen to any of them, JPC. I think you're gonna wow 'em at the LWV meeting. :yay:

I wouldn't miss it for the world and I'm looking forward to seeing you in person.
