Hey oyster people!

On our pilgrimage to Palacios yesterday we saw a bunch of these along the bay shoreline:

155924

They are empty oyster shells in net bags. If they were intact oysters I'd know what they are, but them being empty threw me. There are bags and bags of them all along the shoreline, clearly placed there and not just washed up.

Anybody know?

Just sneakin' around....
Oyster shells are commonly used for spat (newly hatched) oysters to adhere to.

Never saw them that close to shore or in such shallow water tho.

Edit: They are called spat after they attach to the shell.

They're definitely on the shore and not in the water, but it was also low tide.
