Hi8 To Dvd

Not sure if this is the right place to ask or not :)

I have 15 hi8mm tapes that I would like transferred to DVD. My camcorder was stolen years ago and I haven't been able to view the tapes.

I have looked online and am leary of sending the tapes anywhere and them getting lost. Does anyone here do this or no of a local place that does it?

I had my Digial8 camcorder "disappear" on a cruise recently. Bought a used one on EBAY. My Hi-8 camcorder does not playback the Digital8, and it is in Germany. I guess I will briing it back next time I am over. But it doesn't have DV output for use with Adobe Premeire Elements.

As for commercial services, Ritz has a service to copy tape to DVD, but as is, no editing. Claims they do VHS, 8MM, Hi8 and Digital 8. But cost is $29/hour. If you don't have too,too many, take then to Ritz, nearest one in Waldorf.

It is a shame that decent video formats like these can disappear without warning, last year, you could buy new camcorders, as of 1 Jan, no more.

Wow that would be expensive since I have 15 tapes at 2 hours each. I did just get a quote from a company that would cost me $200 for 2 copies of all 15. But I am worried about shipping them somewhere.

I worried about that too. I had 8mm film movies I had copied to DVD. Send them registered or certified. Less chance of losing them. Or someone may have a camera you could borrow. Check ebay?
