Hickory Hills

How you like me now?
Okay, I am thinking of buying a house in this area. The front part kinda threw me a little with trying to get in and out and the street is hard press for traffic but other than that it looked nice.

Since I really do not know much about the area, can some of you please tell me what you think about it and if there is a lot of drama or drime there.

My girls and I have been thru enough and just need a safe place to settle down

:howdy: I live down the next street.

Like anywhere in the park, there's issues.

True, but some areas seem to have more issues than others.

The move is scary enough with the girls and being a single mom.

Not knowing about an area is really making me sweat bullets.

Understandable :huggy:

My son rides his bike through Hickory Hills all the time.

I would call the cops and ask them about crime in the area in the last 6 months. :yay:

Sweet I never thought about that. Thanks so much for the idea. I think I will.

Hey that means we will be neighbors! :huggy:

I have never seen a single hickory tree there or a hill for that matter. :ohwell:
Yeah, that false advertising can be disappointing.

Although, there are some developments where I would not want to encounter the name inspiration... like Eagle's Talon and Old Hag's Rest. :shocking:

I live there.

Are you looking in the Apt's or buying a home?

We have lived here for 3 years now and have no complaints. Recently they do have a sherrif sitting at the club house becuase there was a chance of an issue with the basketball court. Now there is no issues, and the deputies do drive throughs on a regular basis for prevention.

The HOA is active with community events and things for the kids. They just had the doggie dip today at the pool. They put in a new playground for the kids this summer.

The biggest pain is the turn in the morning. If you turn right and go down to Buck Hewitt and follow that it puts you out on 235 away from the mess. That works if you work on base!

I don't live there. So can't offer much input from first hand knowledge.

But two things that do pop into my mind.

1. I listen to the police scanner quite a bit. There is evidently a path from ABC liquors and the Power lines back to Hickory Hills. Most likely the town homes area. In know when the police or looking for suspects in that area this path is always mentioned and they tend to look there pretty hard. I have been under the impression this path is most often used by people I would not necessarily want close to home. There does not appear to me any major crime in the area. But this path is evidently used by stupid people when they do stupid things at Walmart and other retail establishments in that area along 235.

2. FDR BLVD. I am working from what I hear on this one. Not seen it from first hand knowledge. But I have been under the impression that the County wants to extend FDR Bld. all the way from Lexington Park up to St. Andrews Church Road. I was told verbally that it is coming straight through Hickory Hills at some point. Don't know if this is a good or bad thing but it is something I would want to know about before investing in property. Could effect property value to some degree.

I don't want these things to scare you. But they are things I would want to know more about before buying anywhere.

crabcake

But wait, there's more...
Good rule of thumb in buying a house ... try to avoid transient housing nearby (e.g., apartments, townhomes, etc.). Transient meaning housing that people tend to turn over frequently vs. staying for the longer haul. Who you have as nice neighbors today may be replaced by not-so-nice neighbors tomorrow. And while that can happen anywhere, you'll notice that more of the petty/domestic/drug crimes tend to be more frequent in those areas.

Just a thought. Good luck where ever you land! :yay:

Great idea :yay: Make sure to ask them "Would you let your daughter live there alone?"

That is not necessarily a good indicator either. For example, Pete and aps are generally good guys, but if each of them had a room to rent, I wouldn't want my 19 year old there alone. :eyebrow:

Thanks so much, this information was very useful. The house I am looking at is in the far far back so the path I may want to warn the kiddies about.
The road coming in and out of does seem to have heavy traffic though.

The next house I was looking at was Wildewood

Something else I forgot to mention is that they are supposed to be widening Chancellor's Run road to 4 lanes at some point in the future.

Where she would be is about 1/4-1/2 mile down from that. I am not even near that path that the police go and look down. IF they widen it that will take care SO many of the issues of turning out of the development.

I have a statie, and a county sheriff that lives in the same cul-de-sac. We have zero issues other than kids playing ball, and riding the bike in the middle of the street.

One thing about WildeWood is that they will be getting a home depot put in soon also.
