High Capacity Clips

So I heard the WH press secretary today talking about banning high capacity clips. Sounds like a great plan to me, but I'm not sure how much good it will do. What are they going to do, limit your M-1 Garand to five rounds?

But that doesn't use a clip, it uses a magazine. The WH clearly stated they want to limit high capacity clips NOT magazines. Since the M-1 Garand uses an 8 round clip, that must be what they are talking about.

I heard talk of limiting it to 10 rds ......

For those reading that may now be confused, the proper terminology for the part of a firearm which holds ammunition is the magazine (internal/removable/etc).

"Clip" is slang for magazine. However, "Clip" is proper when referring to the M1 Garand semi-auto rifle (from WWII/Korea) which uses an "Enbloc Clip" to hold 8 rounds. The 8 round enbloc clip is placed into the rifle, which sits into the internal magazine. Confused yet?

The M1 garand clip is discharge automatically from the rifle when the last round is fired. The rifle is then reloaded by inserting a new clip, etc.

Clip is also used when referring to ammuntion "stripper clips" which are strips of spring metal which hold ammuntion that is "stripped" off into the firearm's magazine (internal or external, both installed or remove from the firearm).

Yes there are "magazines" which hold more than 10 rounds, both for pistols and for rifles, and they are legal to own in Maryland, not necessarily purchase.

Sorry, I got mixed up in the terminology.

That was kind of my point. If the WH is talking about taking away my rights, they better be damned sure to use correct terminology. Slang is fine for casual conversation, but when the WH press secretary says clips, he damn sure better not mean magazines.

you are correct.

You can own magazines that have a capacity over 20 in MD. They just can't be bought or sold here. I bought a new AR15 about 6 months ago and it came with 20 rounders because of the state law. Better get them now if you want them.

My hub saw the writing on the wall months ago; nothing to do with the horrible tragedy in CT. We already got "them". Socialistic (United) States of America; so we have to be prudent, or preventive, or however you want to look at it.

He's ignorant on the issue and almost certainly means magazines. Prepare.

This is just as dumb as the large soda ban.

As if 2 10-round mags are somwhow different than 1 20-round mag. Considering it only takes a few seconds to do a mag change.

Especially when you can buy clips that connect two mags together side by side for rapid changing.
