Does anyone know about liver function tests in dogs? I just found out that my pitbull has high liver function tests. Can anyone tell me where I might look at info on this subject?

They are going to run a live bile test to see what si going on. Don't really know much else at this time. Hope we will have some news by the end of the week. Thanks for all concern.

The Bile Acid Test should help rule in and out things most of all a liver shunt. In my experience this is the most common liver problem in dogs. Depending on the type (internal/external (to the liver)) depends on if they are correctable with surgery. Larger breeds are more likely to have internal, but this is not always the case. Can also be treated with diet and supplements depending on symptoms and each individual case. I think your vet is going down the right path. I wish you all the best of luck for something easy to correct.

Good news!! His liver is functioning fine. He will have to be put on some kind of medication (I can't remember what my daughter said the name of it was) and we will see what happens in about 4-6 months. I'm so happy it was not something more serious. My daughter said it could have been something he had eaten in the yard (he eats everything) that inflamed his liver. Just don't know.

Was it called Denosyl? That is what they have my elderly dog on.
