It seems a little "out there" but I guess protecting the Prez is a pretty serious job. Does make ya realize how close to Big Brother we really are though.Originally posted by jlabsher
I just hope Vrai hasn't called them on me!
I remember the guy a couple years ago, a drunk at a tavern joking about setting dubya on fire and calling it a burning bush. He actually went to trial over that one, think he got probation.
I think Bush's head on a stick comes pretty close. Besides, the teacher reported it to the police (in accordance with the school's liberal-instituted "zero tolerance" policy, no doubt. The police investigated, called the Secret Service, the Secret Service took a look and said, "Big deal".Originally posted by jlabsher
Well, I don't recall it being a death threat, maybe I can't read.
I couldn't agree with him more. Interesting that you love free speech when it comes to obscenity and pornography in the arts, but sneer at it when someone else exercises THEIR free speech to express disapproval of those things.A healthy society needs censorship to survive, 1950s musical icon Pat Boone said yesterday. He added that he would welcome strong content restrictions governing movies and other artistic works
It's part of the libs zero (drug) tolerance mantra. No exceptions to the rules no matter how stupid it is. Remember the kid who pointed the chicken finger and said "bang"?Originally posted by Tonio
How is banning aspirin in school (which I don't agree with) a liberal thing?
I see it as a nonpartisan control-freak thing on the part of school districts.--stupidity and desires for control know no political affiliation.

I'm sure it wasn't the devil picture that got the kid in trouble, it was the head on the stick. It's an implied threat.
Mom works for the secret service. They do take that sh!t seriously. The investigate every single threat, no matter how ridiculous it may seem on the surface. And it makes no difference which party is in office.

It will be a while until a happy medium can be found that gives individuals freedom and credit for their own responsiblity while protecting the rights and desires of the majority.
I don't see either one as related to politics just the typical human reaction to something they don't like or understand, society going all insular as a whole.
Just because someone is 15, doesn't mean they can't be dangerous. If you don't believe me, talk to people in Littleton, CO.Originally posted by jlabsher
The whole thing smacks of big brother, sorry. Do you really think a 15 year old's drawing or a drunk's ramblings can be taken as serious threats? If so I should watch what I say around here, the culture of paranoia is spreading.
If you're talking about the Columbine High School shootings by three individual teenagers, you've made a very good point.Originally posted by ylexot

The point is that the Secret Service needs to take suspicious activity seriously until they investigate it and determine if it's a threat or not.
