This time it's the parents who are going to jail!

The Albemarle County VA parents sentenced to 27 months in jail for serving alcohol to teens at a birthday party nearly 5 yrs ago will report to jail Monday, now that the U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear their appeal.

The trouble for the Robinsons started in August 2002 when they hosted a party at their Earlysville home for one of Elisa Robinson’s sons, (as well as serving alcohol to 30+ teenagers, some of whom were 15 and 16 years old) who was turning 16 years old.

The parents were charged with 44 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, but in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, Common-wealth’s Attorney Jim Camblos offered the Robinsons a deal.

The prosecutor agreed to charge the couple with 16 counts of contributing, and recommended a 90-day sentence.

But when the Robinsons pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor, the judge, angry that the party occurred a month after their son’s classmate died in an alcohol-related accident, sentenced them to 8 yrs behind bars.

Both parents were escorted out of the courthouse in handcuffs.

Elisa Robinson maintains that she had only the best of intentions when supplying the alcohol that night and wanted to keep the teens at her house and not on the roads.

In retrospect, she acknowledges that throwing the party was a mistake but insists that the penalty she faces is too harsh.

“It’s cruel and unusual punishment, and it’s unequal justice,” Robinson said. :bawl:
