The written test is to see how many tickets someone can write in a given time frame. The agility test is to see how long it takes someone to target a vehicle with a radar gun coming down the hill to the Nice bridge.

A lateral officer is one who currently holds a police certification through the Maryland Police Training Commission, or another state. If another state, you would have to take a compliance course to bring you up to speed on Maryland laws.

Does the local mall count?

Only if you are currently certified by the Maryland Police Training Commission. I don't think that the security officers at the mall are currently certified. The only ones that could be were those that have retired from a police department within the last 3 years.

Doesn't sound like that great of a job. Running traffic on the bay bridge or sitting in the airport all day. No thanks.

and here I thought it was a spelling error and they meant latrine. Job duties including patrolling the bathrooms at the rest stops on Maryland highways.

Not only the Bay Bridge and the airport. They also do all toll facilities, Nice Bridge, Harbor Tunnels, Key Bridge, Tawes Bridge and the highways that are around them. They also have an investigation division.

You didn't really make it that much more exciting, all you did was change the scenery. What does their investigative unit investigate? Accidents? Lost luggage?

Anything criminal other than traffic, just like all other investigation units throughout the country. Searches of containers coming into the Port of Baltimore as they have jurisdiction at the port. You would be surprised just what the MTA Police Department does and has responsiblilty for. Go to their website

The troll police is a good agency to work for. They are alot like MSP in some ways, but different.

They can chase you, spike your tires, etc. They can chase stolen cars, stuff like that, unlike PG or DC who's chase policy is restrictive.
They can whoop your @$$, no restrictive use of force policy. Unlike dc/populations
You deal with a variety of people, not just ghetto populations.
You can work anywhere in the state.
All new equipment for them to use, but no takehome.

Its a good place to lateral to if your unhappy with your current agency and the way they are treating you. I know a guy who left transit to go to DNR, and he's loving life. There are alot of people always looking to leave PG and that's a good chance to go to a different agency, get the lateral pay and get paid decent, run less calls, deal with less hoodrats.

Supposidly, they might eventually merge, msp, mdta, mta, and dnr. One big state agency with different divisions.

Mdta police got a good budget.
There's no patrol rifle program there. Just shotguns and 40's. But it beats working for PG where you have to buy your own rifle.
