Hobbit Skeleton Unearthed (yes, for real)

In an astonishing discovery that could rewrite the history of human evolution, scientists say they have found the skeleton of a new human species, a dwarf, marooned for eons in a tropical Lost World while modern man colonized the rest of the planet.

The finding on a remote Indonesian island has stunned anthropologists. It is a fundamentally new creature that bears more of a resemblance to the fictional barefoot hobbits than to modern humans.

Yet, biologically speaking, it may have been closely related to modern man and perhaps even shared its caves with human ancestors.

My question is... how do they know this dudette wasn't just the equivalent of a modern-day midget?

I believe there were seven complete skeletal enigmas found. That's more than coincidence---though how MUCH more remains to be seen. Additionally, the brain cavities found in the skulls is much smaller than that of a homo-sapien (and despite arguments to the contrary, midgets are in fact still classified as homo-sapiens). This is indicative of an alternate developmental branch, which is why finding seven little skeletons in the backwoods of the South Pacific is such big news. It's not an unthinkable possibility at 20,000 years ago, as the Neanderthals set the precedent at 30,000. The last discovery of this type was Lucy, and her remains were not even as well preserved as these are reported to be.
