Spelling isn't just for first graders anymore.
The Austin Chronicle and Fado Irish Pub held their second annual Adult Spelling Bee Thursday.
Before the bee got underway, 49 hopefuls came back for a second round of preliminary testing.
The top 21 then competed in the actual bee.
Organizers said the event has quickly become a local favorite.
"A few of the people [who] got lost quick, early ... All they were saying was they're going to start studying for next year. So a year ago and still even six months after the first one, we had people calling every day asking when we're doing the next one," Fado general manager Dave Marquez said.
Austin Chronicle proofreaders served as judges.
The winner was Geoff Thevenat, who walked away with a basket of prizes, including a pint a day for a year at Fado.
