I have said for years that if we want to reduce child health issues and the growing (see what I did there) problem of child obesity then we need to look at what is being bought with SNAP. Ramen noodles by the case, gallons of sodas, Twinkies, Ding Dongs etc.... We have all seen it at the market, carts full of junk food and paid for with SNAP. There is a list of things that cannot be bought with SNAP benefits all we need to do is expand that list. The HHS could publish a monthly list by Universal Product Code (UPC) of items not allowed. The stores upload the list to their checkout system and it is done. Before people start whining that it isn't fair they need to be reminded that the SNAP recipient isn't banned from buying the junk foods, just banned from doing it with SNAP money.

They should do like with WIC vouchers where each voucher is good for a certain thing. Vouchers for beans, milk, cheese..... you can't just go in and buy anything you want, you can only get specific items. That way there are no UPC for things they can't buy, just things they can which is a more manageable list.

I love ramen but there's no nutrition in them. Which is annoying because I feel like if they can fortify cereal with vitamins and minerals they should surely be able to do that with ramen.

Mostly I just used the noodles and tossed the salt packet. There's a lot of sauces that you can make from the normal stuff around the house. My favorite was a peanut sauce, peanut butter and soy with red pepper flakes. An ex liked the noodles with canned tuna or make egg drop soup.
