When Pope Benedict XVI visits Austria this weekend, he will be protected and looked after by 1,350 soldiers and 50 aircraft and helicopters of the country's armed forces, the Austrian defense ministry says.

While all episcopal sees can be referred to as holy sees, the term Holy See is normally used in international relations (as well as in the canon law of the Catholic Church) to refer to the central government of the Catholic Church, headed by the Bishop of Rome, commonly called the Pope. Ambassadors are officially accredited to "the Holy See", and its representatives to states and international organizations are recognized as representing "the Holy See".

What's the point?

Could be that nhboy wants to assert that the Pope if truely speaking on behalf of our lord and would then be protected by a devine force and thus no need for mortal protection. Can only assume nhboy is a drive by Atheist trying to ruffle some Christian feathers as sport "and if true" is best left alone.

Or it could be that he's simply amused by the fact that the Popes seat in the blackhawk he'll be transported in will be embroidered with his emblem.

The head of the Catholic church will be flown from Vienna to Mariazell on an air force Sikorsky Blackhawk chopper which will feature a specially-prepared and decorated seat for the distinguished passenger..

The link he posted has a pic... Holy "seat"? Get it?

Thanks, but I'll stick with my contention that size of a mortal protective force was the intent. But hey, I can believe anything I want. Can't I?

Yes, one can believe anything one desires. Especially if one is a tad dim with a hyperactive and slightly defective imagination, "mortal protective force". "driveby Atheist" indeed! You must have pulled that harebrained analysis right out of your ass.

"When Pope Benedict XVI visits Austria this weekend, he will be protected and looked after by 1,350 soldiers and 50 aircraft and helicopters of the country's armed forces, the Austrian defense ministry says."

The above is the lead paragraph of the news story in Aviation Week you twit, "Holy Seat" is the title.
